If you understand what he is getting at, you will understand how Mark operates.

Brother, I did what you said and listened from 54 to 58 minutes and I didn't hear anything strange! All he said was that there are a lot of opinions in our Islamic tradition which people aren't aware of and we have to bring forth these opinions with specific regard to apostasy. He mentioned some scholar who said that to apostasise was not punishable by death...
And he said Islam is less amenable to reformation than other religions.

What's your point? Are you saying he is trying to take non-mainstream views from past scholars and make them mainstream?

Those non-mainstream opinions are those verdicts which are from out of the four schools of thought.
For instance, all the schools agree that an apostate is killed after a trial and cot proceedings. Now ijma' has formed over the four schools. Any one who takes a position out of orthodoxy is a deviant.

There is an opinion that a man who drinks the milk of a woman becomes her mahram. The four schools have agreed against that opinion. The four schools set an age limit on suckling. If any one takes a divergent view on this issue today he has deviated fr ahl alsunna waljama'ah.

This is also the fatwa of Shaykh Murabit alHajj (Allah preserve him):

From Shaykh Murabit's fatwa:

Quote:
“This means that the consensus of the scholars today is on the four schools of thought, and I mean by the schools of Malik, Abu Hanifa, Shafi’i and Ahmad. Indeed, all of the scholars have prohibited following any other school of an independent and absolute mujtahid since the eighth century when the school of Dawud adh-Dhahiri died out and until the 12th Century and all subsequent ones.”
