We have within the Sunni ranks those who are hell bent on takfir, who have a very narrow sectarian mindset where they see only themselves and the small band of people around them as being on the truth, who are declaring major ulama and shayukh as "kafir" based on their own limited, decontextualised and blinkered understand of an issue. I am witnessing what I witnessed with the Salafis of the 90s where they declared non-Salafis as mushriks, mubtadi' and kafir and once they exhausted the declaring of non-Salafis as such, they turned on each other. Who was or wasn't on the manhaj, whose aqida didn't stack up to their uncalibrated yard stick, who wasn't ultra or hard core enough. The same is now happening within our own ranks. Thankfully, it hasn't become cancerous as most people have a semblance of balance and intelligence and dismiss it as a bunch of rowdy kids with nothing better to do. Alhamdulillah.
There is also a racist attitude towards white converts amongst these people. Ironically, white converts to Islam have always been seen as a validation of Islam amongst our elders which was as a result of a post-colonial insecurity with regards to their own faith. Some of the newer generation seem to have a resentment towards white converts. Is that a result of some inferiority complex perhaps?
